Description

Vulgat is focused on making games with interesting systems that don't waste your time.

History

Oh hi there

I'm Jeremiah Reid and I've wanted to make games all my life. In high school, I wrote pong clones, calculator games, and raycasting engines. But the dream of making a complete game seemed too big.

That all changed years later when I discovered game jams like the Seven Day Roguelike challenge. I started writing small freeware games and they were surprisingly well received. My first was included in the "Best of 2013: Roguelike-likes" on freeindiegam.es. After seeing several people call Golden Krone Hotel their favorite entry in the 2014 7DRL challenge, I decided to develop the game further.

Factoids that may interest readers...

I'm a huge fan of Jason Rohrer's game and have earned a modicum of notoriety in his last two games. I placed 6th in the "Steal Real Money" contest for the roguelike MMO The Castle Doctrine and thus won, besides money, a giftcard to a gunshop that I will probably never use and a print of a pixel art piece by Phil Fish (corresponding to an actual painting I stole in game). I also became obsessed over Rohrer's gambling game Cordial Minuet and became the 2nd most profitable player after winning over $1,600.

I love roguelikes of course, despite being awful at them. I've ascended in Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup just twice in many years of play, the second time being a full 15 rune victory.

I've started attending roguelike development conferences and in 2016 gave a talk about making an epic time travel game called The Only Shadow That The Desert Knows.

My proudest achievement is once writing a short lived JavaScript virus for my alma mater's most popular messageboard, which I dubbed the "Edward Norton Norton Antivirus Virus." For a week, it delighted users with images of Edward Norton and MC Hammer. I don't know why I'm telling you this, but here we are.
